Foodies, on your marks! Ready, set, go!
Not only is today International Burger Day, but it is also the opening day of Food Service Australia. The show is a yearly event where food merchants, artisan patissiers, decorated Michelin star chefs and foodies gather around over 3 days. This year, Melbourne was lucky enough to welcome the crowd at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. You can say that it is the mecca for all hospitality traders and food enthusiasts and this is why we absolutely have to blog about it.
With the goal of building a commercial kitchen and launching our first shop in the near future, it was a genuine opportunity to discuss our project with local suppliers. From heavy machinery to packaging options and finding new exciting flavours, you can find anything at the expo. While roaming through the aisles, make sure you stop by the many workshops of the guest chefs. You cannot miss them, their workshops are loud and busy, but definitely worth it.
We had the chance to grab a slice of rocket, prawn and mushroom pizza from the Australian Pizza Championships; where the best pizzaiolos in Australia go head to head for the crown. Make your way downstairs and secure yourself a seat at the Chef of The Year Competition; watch Professional chefs in action as they cook their best dishes with ingredients from a mystery black box. Apron is on, pressure is on! If savoury is not your thing, the Patissier of The Year Contest will satisfy the sweet tooth in you. Pastry chefs will create dazzling desserts under the supervision of judges Christophe Michalak, Antonio Bachour, Paul Kennedy, Kirsten Tibballs and Jordi Roca. Make sure you snap a selfie with the celebrity chefs!
We left the premises with a head full of ideas and a desire to try new things. Not only was the event inspiring, we also made heaps of business connections for The Whisktakers' growth. Food Service Australia was definitely a success and we will be sure to drop by next time it is in town.
