2016
We were still students at Monash University and we baked our very first cakes under the name "Tracy & Chin Cakes" (we didn't have a name when the council health officer asked us, and we panicked). Just days later, we came up with THE WHISKTAKERS... it gave us a little chuckle, we love a good pun!
2017
Word spread and orders grew, so did our need for space. We moved out of our tiny apartment in Clayton to a bigger kitchen in Wheelers Hill. This is where we baked our very first custom cake, over a thousand napolitaines, developed our puits d'amour recipe and just like that, Wheelers Hill became home to so many core memories.
2018
After 2 years of hard work and savings, we finally upgraded our Kmart mixer to our first KitchenAid. That year, The Whisktakers was starting to get noticed, we get invited to events. That year Tracy left Melbourne to continue her pastry journey overseas and that year, I (Chin) left my teaching job to go baking full-time at The Whisktakers.
We transferred our cake business to our home kitchen in Cranbourne. This was the start of a whole new chapter for The Whisktakers.
2020
Covid hit. Parties stopped. The future was uncertain for most and the business struggled too. The Whisktakers quickly pivoted into a contactless online edible gift store where you could send cakes and desserts to your loved ones during lockdown.
2023
I just gave birth to my baby and we needed to separate work from home. We sign up for a warehouse and built our dream kitchen.
2024
We recruit an award-winning team, officially start our cake classes (and since then hundreds of students have been welcomed into our kitchen to learn the art of baking and decorating cakes) and we open our walk-in shopfront. Now customers can discover our range of Mauritian sweets, chunky cookies, éclairs, and custom cakes - all under one roof.
Today
From our tiny apartment oven to our Lynbrook cake shop, our journey has been fueled by passion and the support of our community, and we couldn't be grateful enough to have you in our lives.
• We’ve baked thousands of custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, and corporate events.
• We’ve shared the taste of Mauritian desserts with homes and businesses across Melbourne AND throughout Australia.
• We’ve taught hundreds of students through our cake classes - from individuals to corporate team events.
And through it all, one thing has remained the same: our love for creating sweet memories that bring people together.
